Fun and games !

Turkey racing (or was it herding?)

On Saturday 1st October Chelmsford CAMRA held a Podge Charity
day at Felstar Brewery and combined this with the
CAMRA Essex Games Day.

THANK YOU to all who came along to help raise some money for charity and enjoy the Essex Games Day.
As many of you will know, Chelmsford Branch Chairman, Podge, has been undergoing treatment for cancer
for over a year now.
Franco at Felstar generously offered to host a charity day in aid of a cancer charity to be chosen by Podge.
Beer donated by local brewers - all profits to charite
There were a variety of games to compete in including:
horseshoes; darts; coconut shy; devil amongst the tailors;
turkey racing; egg and spoon races; and "pass the key"!

"There was great beer, BBQ, fun and games at Podge's Charity Day/Essex CAMRA Games Day.
Hosted by Franco and Sarah Davanzo of Felstar brewery. Many thanks to all.
Funds raised on the day expected to be in the region of £2000 plus, to go to leukaemia and lymphoma research charity."

a brewery within a 30-mile radius.

National Beer Scoring Scheme (NBSS)

CAMRA has a system of scoring the quality of beers. YOU can play your part in feeding back to the branch on the quality of real ale in any area of the country by using the system.

NBSS
The NBSS is a scale for judging beer quality in pubs.  It is an easy to use system which has been designed to assist CAMRA branches in selecting pubs for the Good Beer Guide.  It encourages CAMRA members to report on the beer quality that they have found in any pub in the UK.
Scale
0 Undrinkable No cask beer available or so poor you have to take it back or can't finish it.
0.5 Between undrinkable and poor
1 Poor Beer that is anything from barely drinkable to drinkable with considerable resentment.
1.5 Between poor and average
2 Average Competently kept, drinkable pint but doesn't inspire in any way, not worth moving to another pub but you drink the beer with really noticing.
2.5 Between average and good
3 Good Good beer in good form. You may cancel plans to move to the next pub. You want to stay for another pint and may seek out the beer again.
3.5 Between good and very Good
4 Very Good Excellent beer in excellent condition.
4.5 Between very good and perfect
5 Perfect Probably the best you are ever likely to find.  A seasoned drinker will award this score very rarely.

To use the NBSS please register on the system at http://www.beerscoring.org.uk/ and follow the instructions. You will need your CAMRA membership number.
