LocAle
CAMRA LocAle is a new initiative that
promotes pubs stocking locally-brewed ale.
The scheme builds on a growing consumer
demand for quality local produce
and an increased
awareness of 'green' issues. South East Essex CAMRA
adopted the scheme
to encourage pubs to serve at least one real ale from
a brewery within
a 30-mile radius.
Pubs
in South East Essex with the LocAle accreditation include:
CAMRA has a system of scoring the quality of
beers. YOU
can play your part in feeding back to the branch on the quality of real
ale in any area of the country by using the system.
NBSS
The
NBSS is a scale for judging beer quality
in pubs. It is an easy to use system which has been
designed to assist CAMRA branches in selecting pubs for the Good Beer
Guide. It encourages CAMRA members to report on the beer
quality that they have found in any pub in the UK.
Scale
0 Undrinkable
No cask beer available or so poor you have to take
it back or can't finish it.
0.5
Between undrinkable and poor
1 Poor
Beer that is anything from barely drinkable to
drinkable with considerable resentment.
1.5
Between poor and average
2 Average
Competently kept, drinkable pint but doesn't
inspire in any way, not worth moving to another pub but you drink the
beer with really noticing.
2.5
Between average and good
3 Good
Good beer in good form. You may cancel plans to
move to the next pub. You want to stay for another pint and may seek
out the beer again.
3.5
Between good and very Good
4 Very Good
Excellent beer in excellent condition.
4.5
Between very good and perfect
5 Perfect
Probably the best you are ever likely to
find. A seasoned drinker will award this score very
rarely.
To use the NBSS please register on the
system at http://www.beerscoring.org.uk/ and
follow the instructions. You will need your CAMRA membership number.

The National
Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors is CAMRA's pioneering effort to
identify and protect the most
important
historic pub interiors in
the country. It has been part of the campaign's mission for the last 35
years
to not only save real ale but also Britain's rich heritage
of
pubs.
Do you know of a pub in South East
Essex that might qualify?
There was a trip on Saturday July 16th
2011 to Essex to visit potential pubs:
Southend-on-Sea with stops at Grays;
Benfleet; Leigh-on-Sea (GBG /
Heritage pub) to Southend-on-Sea; then return from
Southend Rochford and to
Billericay.
