On
Saturday 1st October Chelmsford CAMRA held a Podge Charity day
at Felstar Brewery and combined this with the CAMRA Essex
Games Day. THANK YOU to all who
came along to help raise some money for charity and enjoy the
Essex Games Day.
As many of you will know,
Chelmsford Branch Chairman, Podge, has been undergoing treatment for
cancer for over a year now. Franco at
Felstar generously offered to host a charity day in aid of a
cancer charity to be chosen by Podge. There
was beer donated by a variety of local brewers at
£2.50/pt and a barbeque - all profits from both will
go to the charity. There were a variety of games to compete in.
"There was great beer,
BBQ, fun and games at Podge's Charity Day/Essex CAMRA Games
Day. Hosted by Franco and Sarah Davanzo of Felstar brewery. Many thanks
to all. Funds raised on the day expected to be in the region of
£2000 +, to go to leukaemia and lymphoma research charity."

In case we can obtain the facility to obtain
tax relief on all donations we would need confirmation in each case
that the person has no objection to the donation being subject to gift
aid for tax purposes
subject to them being in current employment in the UK (such agreement
does not increase the contribution directly paid by the individual). For gift aid you will also need to
give a full UK address with the donation (purely optional of course)
SE Essex Epilepsy Support Group July Newsletter:
It is with great sadness that I have to inform
group members that Stuart
died on the 16th of this month following a
sudden epilepsy seizure.
The reasons as to why this proved fatal have yet to be established.
Stuart
has been
a constant and active member of our local Epilepsy Support Group for
many years
and remained a strong supporter of the need to retain a local support
group
that gave priority to local people learning to cope or adjust to the
various aspects
of epilepsy whether as a sufferer or family and friends dealing with
its
impacts.He was eager to
keep people informed of new initiatives and only recently forwarded
information
to Basildon group
colleagues about the 38
degree campaign re health service reforms which was greatly appreciated.
Stuart was an excellent
role model to others in showing that epilepsy need not be an obstacle
in
leading a full and normal life subject to basic common sense safeguards
being
taken to reduce the risk of seizures. Stuart certainly
demonstrated this in his support for CAMRA - Campaign for Real Ale
(which he
loved, in moderation!) festivals and was a well travelled man going on
extensive overseas trips. Stuart was exceptionally easy going so
meeting people
was never a problem and a nicer person you could not wish to meet. The
fact
that he will no longer be with us at such a relatively early age is all
the
more distressing.
In my current capacity as Epilepsy Support
Group Chair on behalf of all
our members, past and present, let me to express our great appreciation
of the
considerable time and effort given by Stuart over many years. There
have been
times when the group was in danger of disbanding. Without people like
Stuart the
group would not still be here today and able to continue to provide the
support
it does to local people who are coming to terms with the impact of
epilepsy.
Our sympathy and best wishes are extended at
this extremely difficult time to Stuart’s family and friends
Stuart maybe gone from our sight, but never our
memories. I will miss Stuart saying “Hello
Matey” whenever I saw him in the pub and I know he
will be missed by all that knew him. No words can really
help, but one thing I do know is, it was a pleasure knowing you, and
having you as part of the local CAMRA team.
Mark
Bullock
Chairman
Our
heartfelt condolences to all who knew Stuart, we were devastated to
hear this awful news.
Like many others we had only been with him at Derby Beer Festival a
week before and he was, as ever, the kind, considerate,
sweet-tempered, sensitive soul we all knew and loved.
Time for everyone and only kind words to say for all.
One of life's super individual characters, things will not be
the same without him.
A great bloke and a smashing pal.
All
our love
Pip
& Elaine
As some of you will probably know
Stuart was also a long standing and active member
of the South East Essex Epilepsy
Support Group and this terrible news has been a massive shock
for all that knew him. As expressed by others on this site
Stuart was a wonderful and exceptionally easy going bloke who will be
sorely missed. He was
also an excellent role model to others in showing that being an
epilepsy sufferer need not stop you from leading a normal life as shown
by his participation with CAMRA, his foreign trips
and his general willingness to help others.
On
behalf of our local epilepsy group let me to express our deepestsympathy
and best wishes to Stuart’s family and friends at
this extremely difficult time

South East Essex Epilepsy Group Chair
I
was shocked to find out about Stuart. I saw him down the band stand at
priory park a few weeks ago and we went down the lamb & lion
and had a good chat for a few hours. Little did I know that would be
the last time I saw him...I shall treasure that time and will sorely
miss you Stuart! A gentleman in the true sense who always made
newcomers welcome...so long my friend.
Barry Shirfield
Stuart
was one of the the most cheerful, enthusiastic and friendly of all the
volunteers at Derby Festival with an awesome sense
of humour, right from when I was learning the ropes to when I
was managing Staffing. He became a true pal and treasured drinking
buddy. This has been such a shock. He will be missed so much.
RIP Stuart.

Very sad to hear this news. We
had some fine times back when I lived in Southend. Stuart was a really
gentle, sweet man with a love of music and real
ale and his family and friends. I'm so glad he got to see some of the
world. My condolences to family and friends.
Walt Tyler
Stuart you
will be greatly missed. There will always be a place at the bar for you.
Best
wishes to your family.
Jennifer
Goodbye Stuart,
Sorry
you have gone, we had some good times along the way.
You are
in my thoughts, Phil Cunnington.
That's
terrible - can't believe it
We seem to have lost so many people suddenly over the last few years
Poor old Stuart
Charles and Sally
Stuart, I have known you
since you first joined the SE Essex CAMRA branch and looked forward to
seeing your happy, smiling face whenever we met and having a long chat.
I thought your spirit
in the face of adversity (epilepsy) was an example to us all and I am proud
to have known you.
Dave Rayner
The news of
Stuart’s untimely and tragic passing has left me simply
stunned. He was one of the nicest people I have ever had the
pleasure of knowing, and always had time
and a smile for everyone. I raise my glass to you and your memory, my
friend, sleep well – may you rest in
peace…..

A
I have just read the
well deserved tributes to Stuart.
I can only echo
those expressed by another John A.
After I
left S.E. Essex 8 years ago on the sadly too rare occasions we met
since he greeted me like an old friend
and we seemed to pick up where we left off. A true Gentleman
in every sense of the word.
Sadly distance and
family matters prevent me attending. I'm sure he will be
given the send off he deserves.
John Abson
Devastated. Stuart was a star guy!
Rob Tunbridge
I am deeply shocked at this very sad news. I find it hard to believe
that Stuart is no longer with us, he will be much missed by all of us
in the branch.
Simon and June Edge
Sorry to hear the sad news.
Andrea Briers
Really sorry to hear this. Stuart was a decent guy and we will miss him
:(
Jon Singer
Stuart was a great bloke,
he will be sorely missed, we are all shocked.
Ray.
Stuart
Rayment was one of our finest members in his unwavering love
of real ale. He was a key member of our branch and his passing has
caused shock waves through the branch, myself very much
included. You
will be sorely missed Stuart and we bid you loving farewell to your
final place of rest and our thoughts are with your heartbroken family. We raise our
glasses to you and your memory, rest in peace Stuart.

A good all
round bloke. Many a last bus. He will be very much missed. RIP my
friend. God Bless You. Trev
Stuart and I did not always agree but he never allowed our differences
to come between our friendship. A good loyal friend who will be sadly
missed. Mike Flack
I
was really shocked and sad to hear about Stuart. I have known
him for nearly 15 years and last saw him the week before in Derby
and he looked happy and his usual self. He
was one of life's gentle souls and I will miss seeing him around.
